Star Wars 3D on the Isle of Wight! - Thursday 9th February 2012
FANS of the long running Star Wars franchise descended upon Cineworld in Newport on Thursday to celebrate the conversion of their favourite space opera to 3D. Young Jedis and Stormtroopers alike turned up to battle it out before The Phantom Menace - the first episode in the Star Wars saga - began.

Chinese New Year Celebrations - Freshwater - 29th Jan 2012
THE new Chinese year of the Dragon was celebrated in style on Sunday night with a traditional Chinese lion dance at both Freshwater and Newport Hong Kong Express restaurants. Manager Michael Hang, and martial arts instructor Simon Lailey spoke to Joe Briscoe about the performance, it's meaning, and the importance of recognising different cultures on the Isle of Wight.

Farmhouse Breakfast - West Wight - Video Report - Jan 28, 2012
TO celebrate the annual Farmhouse Breakfast week, an event was held in Freshwater yesterday (Saturday) to encourage people to buy locally produced food and raise the profile of Island farmers. Chairwoman of the Isle of Wight NFU, Caroline Knox, and High Sheriff Susie Sheldon were present to support the event. Youngsters took part in a 5-aside football competiton, chickens and tractors were brought along, and a free breakfast was given to anyone who took part in the activities.

FYT Bus official launch & Norman Baker interview - 25 Jan 2012LAUNCHING the new FYT community bus scheme on the Isle of Wight yesterday was Norman Baker MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport. Mr Baker rode the new volunteer-run service from Yarmouth to Freshwater and announced upon arrival that funding from the central government for such schemes would continue for another year. Island MP Andrew Turner and Marc Morgan Huws from Southern Vectis also gave their thoughts on the benefits of the FYT bus.

Freshwater Bay Boxing Day - Fun Run 2011 - Video Report
WITH the smell of Christmas dinner still in the air, a group of brave souls turned out at Freshwater Bay yesterday to take part in the annual Boxing Day fun run to the Needles.
Upon returning to Freshwater Bay, some even took the plunge and enjoyed a festive but frosty dip in the sea.

BBC Digital Switchover Roadshow on IOW - Video Report
BBC teams offering advice on the switchover to digital TV have been out and about on the Island this week. On Tuesday they took the Digital Switchover Roadshow to Ryde, and today (Wednesday, 14) they will be setting up camp in Newport, giving general information about the switch to digital TV, and explaining who is eligible for the BBC's free Help Scheme.

Wild West Solent Swim 2011
A TOTAL of 39 swimmers completed the Wild West Solent Swim, on the morning of Saturday, September 24. The fundraising challenge began at Hurst Castle, and ended on the beach at Colwell Bay on the Isle of Wight. So far, a total of £13,000 has been raised to help keep West Wight Sports Centre open.
